HOW TO STOP (or how to avoid becoming a speedbump)
|
...continued from front page...
That theory being, a stop is intended to slow you ant leave you in a position
to be able to react to the situation; that reaction can be a continued effort to slow down.
The purpose is not necessarily to stop, it's to get to a comfortable and safe speed and
condition. In some cases that is a full complete stop. And from there, proceed.
Realize, you can use any stops you have knowledge of; one technique does not fit all situations.
Thus, it is in your best interest to experiment with many types of stops.
As with any sport, practice makes reflex, as well as perfect. And reflex is what you need in an emergency.
practice, anticipate, and use caution.
Better to avoid a situation than have to have to use one of your nifty stops.
Even if you have been working on it all season. :) Show it off on the slalom course.
Safer for all parties involved. Even your wheels.
Skating can put you in dangerous situations. Prepare as best you can for them.
